1.Tell us about your beautiful self. Who is Caitlin?
Caitlin is… oh what a deep question!
Caitlin is 23 years old and in Australia with a background in marketing, makeup and fashion styling. Surface level talk sounds so boring sometimes, don’t you think?
But really I am someone who simply loves to create and inspire people to live their best lives and feel confident with who they are. I have always loved anything creative from painting canvases to painting faces. I am a reader, a curious individual, a shopping addict, a basketball fan, a dreamer and I like to think of myself as an old soul…who happens to like hip hop and RnB. I’ve also been told by new people I meet that I talk WAY too fast, I’ve always thought it’s because my mouth tries too hard to keep up with my mind.
2. If we asked you to describe your style in 3 words, what would those 3 words be?
Chic, feminine and on-trend.
3.What inspired you to start blogging?
I have always loved to write and tell stories (to the point where my name is actually engraved in my high school library, wooo!) I have always had some sort of a personal journal but I wanted a platform where I could inspire people and offer them advice about the things that I like to think I know a thing or two about.
4. You’re a fashion stylist! That must be so much fun! If you could give our babes one piece of styling advice, what would it be?
Ooooo that’s a tough question! I think my one piece of advice and ultimate mantra when it comes to fashion and styling is to let go of the rules! Some people take fashion so seriously and often feel like they can’t or shouldn’t wear a certain outfit usually because of rules society or themselves have put into their minds. I used to place rules on myself too, like, ‘I can’t wear heels during the day’ or ‘black should be avoided in summer’ or ‘is this outfit is too much for this occasion?’ and the list goes on! I then realized it was no way to live, being so restricted is torture! So the next time you or someone else tells you, you can’t/ shouldn’t wear that, ask them ‘says who?’. You will then find there are really no written rules when it comes to fashion.
5. I feel like a lot of people out there may be a bit shy of hiring a stylist. Who do you think should hire a fashion stylist and why?
Anyone who might feel lost or like they need some guidance! I believe anyone who is lacking confidence would benefit from a fashion stylist. To me, fashion has always been more than just about the clothes you wear, it’s so much more than that! It’s who you are, your identity, your core, it’s a way to show others who you are but at the same time it’s such a personal thing.
6. What are your future goals? What’s the ultimate Caitlin lifestyle in your mind?
I have so many goals for the future that I am working towards! In the future (just to name a few) I want to be blogging full time as well as owning my own business surrounding fashion/beauty. I would love to own property in multiple cities around the world and to travel for work would just be an amazing opportunity, I would also love to travel more for leisure.
I have always wanted to write a novel and eventually would love to volunteer with orangutans in Borneo or Sumatra.
7. I know you’re a bit shy about your YouTube videos but I love them so much! What do you use to shoot your videos and what advice would you give any of our babes wanting to start their own channel?
I use my Canon Powershot Mark II, more a vlogging camera but I find it does the trick. I also use a ring light and two soft boxes to help with lighting. I also use final cut pro for all my editing, it’s definitely an investment but so worth the price! My advice would be start today! The sooner you start the better it will be! Trust me.
I didn’t film my first video until 2013 (please don’t try to find that video it’s horrible haha). I really wanted to start my channel in 2010 but never believed I was good enough. I waited three whole years to start something I truly am passionate about, please don’t let that happen to you.
8. Give us an idea about a typical day in the life of Caitlin.
My days fluctuate because not having a full time job means I don’t have a set routine but usually I wake up between 6:30-7:30, check my social medias, emails and see what’s been happening in the world since I was last awake. I then fill out my 5-Minute Journal and write 3 goals for my life as if I have already achieved them (it’s very motivating). I then prime for 10 minutes (a form of meditation) and have breakfast and head to the gym. After I come home from the gym (looking disgustingly sweating I should add) I shower, and do a mix of assignment work, editing, filming, writing, brainstorming and planning, and depending on the day I may work with a client. By about 6pm I usually eat dinner and since it’s Summer right now I like to take advantage of the beach and may go for a walk or sit on the balcony and work on my blog or do some browsing through my favourite online stores (this is a daily task of mine as I am always looking for trends, researching and finding fashion inspiration).
9. Head to our online store and tell me what your favourite item is at the moment and why!
I absolutely adore the illusion cape! I love white and usually anything lace, to me it just screams Summer and the versatility is amazing! I would wear this all through Spring and Summer, to the beach, as a dressing gown, over a cute dress or a nice blouse with some jeans or shorts- the possibilities are endless.
10. Why do you love being a part of Blush Babes?
I love being part of a community of like-minded women who all have their own personal interests yet are so supportive of each other’s goals and dreams! It’s nice to have a supportive network of women who are ambitious and hard working to be surrounded by!
